The Smiths is the self-titled debut studio album by English band The Smiths, released on 20 February 1984 on Rough Trade Records. It established The Smiths as a prominent band in the 1980s music scene in the United Kingdom. The album peaked at #2 on the UK Charts and also became an international success, peaking at number 45 on the European Albums Chart.
The sleeve was designed by Morrissey and features American actor Joe Dallesandro in a still from Andy Warhol’s 1968 film ‘Flesh’.
